Yachtcharter Goçek

has become rather smart by Turkish standards, with an expensive new marina and smart hotel.

Seafront restaurants have become more expensive.
The best of them by far is the one at the head of the Skopea Marina pier, where you sit under the huge rubber tree.

However make your way to the little main square and there are a couple of fine fish restaurants. Go along the main street, turn up from Akbank and go to the delightful Limon for something much more Turkish - particularly at lunchtime.
On the main street itself look for a scruffy looking place with plastic tables and chairs and a stuffed sheep called the Kebab Hospital. Sit down and enjoy something more truly Turkish at almost Turkish prices.

Fethiye has a new luxurious marina.

It is only 5 minutes walking to the town where you find the Bazaar with all the spices, leather bags, good restaurants, barbers etc.

Fethiye is still very turkish but in summer a lot off tourist come to this beautifull place.

Fethiye itself has some fine LycianBay of Fethiyetombs, an amphitheatre, and a permanent buzz to it.

Excellent Sailing

The Meltemi is less fierce than around Bodrum or even Marmaris.

The sheltered Bay of Fethiye has more anchorages in a comparatively small area than almost any other that we know, making this an ideal first-timers area.

The more adventurous, and those taking 2 weeks, can go east past the famous Seven Capes to Kalkan, Kas, and Kekova for the cruise of their life. Kalkan like Göcek has got rather smart, but Kas remains truly Turkish just as the Greek outpost of Kastellorizou opposite is unmistakably Greek.
There is the famous sunken city of Simena, the magnificent Crusader castle at Kekova, with all the sarcophagi on the way in to the village landing stages.

To reach Gocek or Fethiye you need to fly to Dalaman. It is now only 30 minutes from the airport to Fethiye.
There are more flights to here than anywhere else on the Turkish coast.
